01

Project Overview

PCM Syllabus Tracker is a student productivity tool for tracking Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics syllabus progress across Class 11 and 12. It is built for students preparing for JEE and board exams who need syllabus visibility and spaced repetition without maintaining a messy notebook or spreadsheet.

02

Problem / Motivation

Tracking a massive syllabus for competitive exams like JEE can be overwhelming. Standard task lists don't account for forgetting curves, and when progress is not visible, planning becomes vibes-based management. Vibes are not a scheduling system, sadly.

03

Architecture / System Design

The project is built with Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS around a deterministic spaced-repetition state machine (3d, 7d, 14d, 30d, 90d intervals). Once a topic is marked completed, the tracker calculates when it needs to resurface for revision.

The design is intentionally brutalist and direct—sharp borders, subject color-coding, and Mastered/Due indicators that prioritize fast checking and updating over decorative dashboards.

04

Key Features

The tool focuses on retention clarity, zero distraction, and repeat daily use.

  • Automated spaced repetition intervals (3d, 7d, 14d, 30d, 90d).
  • Class 11 and 12 PCM syllabus organization with subject-wise progress.
  • Distinct Mastered, Due, and In-Progress revision states.
  • Secure verification modal to prevent accidental progress resets.
  • Pure brutalist UI optimized for zero distraction.

05

Technical Challenges

The challenge is making the tracker simple enough to use daily while keeping the spaced-repetition state transitions accurate. Too much friction makes updates annoying; too little structure makes revision dates slip.

06

Solutions / Engineering Decisions

I kept the workflow centered around instant visibility, low-friction state updates, and reset protection. The app avoids pretending to be a bloated productivity OS and instead solves the specific PCM revision scheduling problem cleanly.

07

Outcome / Final State

The deployed app gives students a clear, living view of syllabus completion and due revisions. It is live on Vercel, open-source on GitHub, and used in real daily exam preparation.
